After three long years since her last release, Kali Uchis has finally returned with her third studio album “Red Moon in Venus.” As the title suggests, this body of work is all about love, lust, and sensuality. Kali’s vocals compliment these concepts perfectly, and she adjusts her sound in just the right way so that one can imagine the perfect picture of two lovers intertwined together in paradise, or “their own garden,” as she puts it.

However, as we all know, love isn’t perfect. While she never fails to express how unbelievably infatuated she is with her lover, Kali doesn’t ignore the ups and downs they’ve had along the way. And with songs like “Hasta Cuando” and “I Wish You Roses,” she keys us into not only her current relationship’s battles, but all the struggles from previous relationships that she’s had to endure in order to be the “perfect lover girl” that she is today.

Kali does an amazing job with showing us how wonderful and bountiful love can be, but she is here to remind us that you can’t lose yourself in it. In the songs “Moral Conscious” and “Deserve Me,” she continuously emphasizes the idea that; while it’s important to be devoted to your partner and appreciate them and all their flaws, you must do the same to yourself. Without that self-love and care, you end up doing damage to yourself as well as the one that you love.

Kali’s sound in this piece is the perfect combination of all her past projects. She combines the worlds of R&B and Latin Pop (both of which she has shown incredible prowess in already) into her own original, fantastical mesh.

Overall, “Red Moon in Venus” is arguably one of her best works yet and I, personally, am waiting with baited breath to see what more she has in store for us.
